Emil Lindgren from Lenneberg are the main characters. The image of the protagonist in Astrid Lindgren's story "Emil from Lönneberg. How did Emil get Lucas?

Astrid Lindgren has written over 80 children's books. Cheerful, resourceful and resilient heroes of her stories found their admirers in 76 countries. And each of them at least once tried to find Carlson's house on the roof, tie the brushes to their feet and wash the floor, as Pippi did, or feed the rooster with drunken cherries, like Emil from Lenneberg.

History of writing

Astrid Lindgren also loves her characters. But Emil is closest to her. He looks like herself. As for pranks and tricks, she, of course, did not reach such heights as the boy from her work "The Adventures of Emil from Lenneberg". Summary books will allow you to appreciate the ingenuity of this little rascal. But the inspiration for these stories came from real life events.

The idea to write about the prankster Emil came by chance. Three-year-old grandson Astrid screamed non-stop. She tried to calm him down and asked the question: “Do you know what Emil from Lenneberg once did?” The baby immediately stopped crying. He really wanted to know what Emil had done. Thus, the story of the wicked man was born.

Many stories were told by Astrid's father, Samuel August, who was a well-known mischief in the area. Some hilarious things happened to her brother Gunnar. When Astrid writes about Emil's trip to Vimmerby, she draws on her memories. My father, who had a wonderful memory, helped a lot. Even at the end of his life, he could tell exactly how much a pig, a horse, or a fire pump cost at the fair. This information was useful when writing the book "The Adventures of Emil from Lenneberg". They are also mentioned in the summary.

The protagonist

Emil Svensson is one of the most interesting characters of Astrid Lindgren. And the smallest. In the first story, he is only five years old. He constantly gets into alterations. But not all of them are random. Emil is very resourceful and has a long list of pranks. They are mostly sweet and innocent, although they often make their father blush and get angry. The mother is always sure that this happened by accident.

Of great importance is where Emil lives. It is not for nothing that Lindgren chose the farm in the Adventures of Emil from Lenneberg. The summary confirms that the farm has an incredible scope for pranks. Many of Emil's tricks are aimed at saving the people he loves. Sometimes his actions are touching. For example, he distributes food intended for guests to the poor. In his own house, this was marked as a "prank", but Emil's intentions are certainly noble.

Emil is actually a very kind little boy. He reciprocates the farmer Alfred, who treats him like a brother. Emil trusts him and even saves his life one day. However, not all pranks are done with noble intentions. For example, when he made everyone believe that his sister had typhus, and for greater persuasiveness painted her face purple? It is not surprising that his father is often angry with Emil, and in order to avoid his anger, the boy locks himself in a barn and makes wooden figurines.

Of course, the summary of the story "The Adventures of Emil from Lenneberg" will not describe all the antics of this cheerful little boy. But the fact that Emil had more than three hundred wooden old men confirms how often the little boy gets into various troubles.

Other characters

Ida, Emil's little sister, unlike him, is a calm child. But often, and not of her own free will, she becomes involved in the tricks of her brother. Sometimes she likes it herself, because Emil is such an inventor. When they played Indians, Emil, in order to make her red-skinned, like a real Indian, dipped her into a large bowl of lingonberry jam. And the game "Wind-sail" that they came up with? You have to run fast, and when you meet each other, poke your finger in the stomach and shout: “The wind is the wind.” It was so much fun! Until Emil ran into Lina with a bowl of dough in his hands. He completely forgot that she was ticklish and poked her in the stomach with his finger. The basin, like a real sail, flew up. And all the potato dough ended up on the head of dad, who entered the kitchen.

Anton Svensson, Emil's father, like many residents of Småland, is very careful about money. And he knows their value. Once the pastor offered him forty crowns for a postage stamp, Anton quickly calculated that they could buy half a cow. And when Emil asked what kind of part he was going to buy - the front, which is mooing, or the back, which beats with his tail, - his father closed him in the carpentry. He often gets angry with his son, but swearing is forbidden in the Svensson household. Therefore, it is not surprising that the boy already had the hundredth wooden man on his account when the dough poured onto his father's head.

Alma Svenson, Emil's mother, adores her boy. The summary of the book "The Adventures of Emil from Lenneberg" says that Alma is an excellent hostess and is known in the area as an unsurpassed culinary specialist. She writes down all the tricks of her son in a blue notebook. He writes, however, with errors. But this will not prevent her boy, when he grows up, to read these notes and remember his antics. And although soon there are several notebooks, Alma is sure that Emil is a sweet child.

Worker Alfred - best friend naughty. He loves children and treats Emil like a younger brother. He taught him how to swim and take care of the animals on the farm. A lot more. The maid Lina also lives on the farm. She is sure that Emil is a terrible prankster and is only capable of dirty tricks. Not far from Emil's house, in a forest hut, lives Kröse Maya. She often comes to visit them and tells scary stories.

Acquaintance with Emil

Emil Svensson looks like a pure angel - big blue eyes, blond curly hair. But in fact, he is a tomboy and stubborn. And the boy knew how to insist on his own. One day, dad bought him a cap. Emil did not want to part with the new thing and went to bed in it. His mom didn't like it. But when she tried to take it off, the boy screamed so loudly that she had to give in. For three whole weeks, Emil slept in this "cap".

The Katthult farm where Emil lives is small. Our hero lives with dad Anton, mom Alma Svensson and little sister Ida. The house rises on a hill, among lilacs and apple trees. Around - meadows, fields, a lake and a huge forest. In addition to Emil's family, the worker Alfred and the maid Lina live in Katthult.

Lina believes that Emil does nothing but play pranks. "Here! Chased the cat around the chicken coop,” she complains. Well, how was she to know that Emil just wanted to see who runs faster? The cat didn't understand...

Everyone does not understand him. Same Lina. I cooked meat soup on Tuesday and poured it into a beautiful tureen. Emil was very fond of this soup, when he wanted more, the soup was left only at the very bottom. And you could get it only by sticking your head inside. He did just that. And I couldn't get my head back. Emil stood in the middle of the kitchen, the tureen towered on his head like a tub. And Lina ran around and lamented: “Ah, our tureen! Where are we going to pour the soup?

Only the mother thought about her son and offered to break the tureen with a poker. But then dad protested. It must be said that he was very economical and remembered that a tureen cost as much as four crowns. Alfred tried to remove the tureen from Emil's head by pulling up on the handles. But it was not there. Emil also rose with the tureen. He hung, dangled his legs and shouted to the tureen: “Leave me alone! Let me in". It was decided to take the tureen to the doctor. The summary of the work "Emil from Lenneberg", of course, will not be able to accommodate all that Emil's family had to endure along the way. But is he to blame?

Welcome to Catthult

Lina is generally unfair to him. On Sunday, many guests were waiting at the farm, they prepared various goodies. Mom said that the holiday will be great. "Yes," Lina replied. “Only if you lock Emil in a shed.” How can she? After all, Emil immediately rushed to help his dad when he remembered that he forgot to raise the flag. Who is to blame that Alfred called the pope, and Ida wanted to see Mariannelund? That is why, when all the guests had gathered, his sister Ida met them at the top of the flagpole.

As punishment, Emil was locked up in a carpenter's shop. He felt that it smelled very tasty and noticed that the pantry window was open - food was stored there. Including the famous blood sausage, which was prepared by his mother. To try this sausage, Mrs. Petrel came from Vimmerby itself. When the holiday was in full swing, my mother remembered that Emil was locked up. Dad ran to the carpentry, but did not find his son there. What's the fun in that?

Everyone rushed to look for Emil. In the end, they got hungry and sent Lina to the pantry for sausage. She returned quickly. Without sausage. Since Lina looked very mysterious, everyone rushed to the pantry to see what had happened there. When they opened the cupboard where the sausage was kept, Emil was sleeping peacefully on the shelf. But there was no sausage. Fru Petrel was upset and pouted her lips. Even little Ida noticed how disappointed the noble Fr. Petrel was, and told Emil about it. He comforted his sister. Said Mrs. Petrelle would get over it quickly as soon as she found the little rat he had put in her bag.

Emil to the rescue

In fact, Emil is very kind. And even brief retelling"The Adventures of Emil from Lenneberg" will help to understand that he considers it his duty to help everyone he knows. Although Lina is sure that Emil is an incorrigible prankster, the boy was the first to rush to her aid when she woke up one morning with a toothache. Looking in the mirror, she found that her cheek was swollen and looked like a huge bun. But there is nothing to do, Lina went to milk the cow. As soon as the girl sat down on the bench, a wasp flew up and stung Lina on the other cheek. Her face instantly became even-cheeked.

Alfred suggested that Lina go to the blacksmith and pull out a bad tooth. The girl shuddered at the thought. But then Emil came to the rescue, saying that he knew a great way. The pain was so unbearable that Lina agreed to his venture.

Lina's tooth was entangled with a bear vein, Emil tied the other end to his belt. He reassured Lina that now it remains only to hear: “Bam!”, He climbed onto the horse and let him gallop. But nothing happened. Because Lina was so afraid of this "bang" that she also started galloping. And when the horse jumped over the fence, Lina did not lag behind - she, mad with fear, also jumped over it.

Emil sincerely wanted to help the girl. And she knows about it. Therefore, when Emil scared the Lennebergers so much that they immediately decided to send the boy to America, Lina said in fright: “We need to think at least a little about the Americans. They recently had a terrible earthquake, and then there’s Emil to boot.” Mom was then terribly angry, and Lina was perplexed: “I would change with them.”

How did Emil get Lucas?

The inhabitants of Lenneberg were very sorry for Emil's parents, because they believed that nothing good would come of this mischievous person. They could not even think that when he grows up, he will become the chairman of the municipality. But Emil has always been inventive. On his account not only tricks, but also good deeds. And real deals. And stunning. His mother wrote it down in her blue notebook. They say that she later brought these notes to the author of the book "The Adventures of Emil from Lenneberg". The summary, of course, will not reveal all the talents of the prankster Emil. But it will help to get to know this rascal better.

Emil knew everything there was to know about horses. Alfred taught him everything. And Emil asked his father for a long time to buy a stallion to pair with Marcus. Once, at a fair in Vimmerby, a boy saw a three-year-old buckskin horse in the pasture. Here is a horse! But the father said that Emil should not expect that he would pay as much as three hundred crowns for the horse. In the evening, Emil saw a large crowd of peasants in one of the dark streets and heard a loud neighing. The blacksmith desperately tried the same one that the mischievous one at the fair liked. The horse reared up and did not give up. The boy, to the loud laughter of those gathered, said that he would cope with him. The owner shouted that then the boy could take it for himself. Emil went up to the horse, raised his hind hoof - the horse did not move. He was shod, and the crowd shouted to the owner: “You gave your word. The horse is a boy!

And so Emil ended up with a handsome horse named Lucas. Emil was driving home and thought what a great day. Not counting, of course, the fact that he spilled blueberry jelly on Fra Petrel, flying in through the window like a comet. Ran into the burgomaster's house on Lucas and knocked over the cake on him. He scared the inhabitants of Vimmerby to death by setting off fireworks from a whole box of firecrackers. The adventures of Emil from Lenneberg did not end there. A summary of the chapter on his successful auction deal is given below.

good deal

Once there was an auction in Buckhorva. Emil's dad thought he could buy a cheaper cow, and if he was lucky, a pig. Emil decided to take with him. But dad didn't give him any money. What is an auction without money? Emil thought about it. He said to go without him. Everyone rejoiced. But it was not there. Emil decided to get money. He quickly realized that those who wished to enter the auction could not bypass their gates in Katthult. So he earned money by opening and closing the gate.

Emil saddled Lukas and rode off in Buckhorv. He was only in the mood for big deals, and so he quickly became the owner of a velvet box, a long-handled shovel, and a rusty fire pump for twenty-five eras. Everyone laughed at him. But when a real fight broke out, Emil grabbed the pump and forced Lina to pump water. The ice jet quickly cooled the brawlers. Emil immediately sold the pump for fifty øre to the owner Knashulte, where the next auction will take place in a week.

Astrid Lindgren was born on November 14, 1907 in southern Sweden, on the farm of Nes (Näs) near Vimmerby in the county of Kalmar, into a peasant family.

  • CHILDHOOD

Astrid's childhood in the estate of Nes at the beginning of the last century was very happy. Parents did not strongly scold children for missing lunch or soiled clothes. The most important things in Astrid's childhood at that time were games, friends, nature and books. Astrid herself recalls her childhood with these words: We played, played and played to the point that it's amazing how we didn't play to death!

  • YOUTH

Astrid's memories of childhood were very happy, however, despite the large circle of friends, her memories of adolescence were far from pleasant. “My life in my youth was just a colorless, empty existence. I often fell into melancholy. Like most teenagers, I considered myself ugly and never once fell in love with anyone. In 1923, Astrid was confirmed in Vimmerby. The rite was performed by Rev Höglander. In 1926 she moved to Stockholm and trained in cursive and typewriting.

  • FIRST JOB

Already at the age of 13, one of Astrid's compositions, "På vår gård" ("In our estate"), was published in the newspaper "Vimmerby Tidning". In 1924 Chief Editor Newspaper Reinhold Blomberg, who needed a volunteer to work for the newspaper, suggested that Samuel August hire Astrid. At first, Astrid wrote notes and theater reviews, did proofreading, answered phone calls, ran various small errands, and wrote advertisements and obituaries. However, pretty soon she was entrusted with writing journalistic articles for the newspaper...

About the book

The history of the creation of the book

The book "Emil from Lenneberg" was written in 1963.

In the Emil of Lönneberga books, Astrid returns to Småland to her own childhood. Emil has always been one of the most beloved characters of both Astrid herself and her father. “You know, Emil is exactly the Småland of my childhood,” said Astrid. “I love this character so much that when I finished writing the last book about him, I even burst into tears.”

Astrid Lindgren invented the place called Kathult herself, but Vimmerby and Mariannelund, to which Emil goes in the books, actually exist.

Like Emil from Lönneberga, Astrid grew up in large family with maids and laborers.

The entire setting in the Emil books was created from Astrid's memories of her own childhood in Ness. This is how illustrator Bjorn Berg depicted Lina's kitchen sofa.

Readers and Astrid herself liked the book so much that until 1986 A. Lindgren wrote a continuation of the fervent stories about Emil.

The cycle of works about Emil includes three stories (usually combined into a collection), three stories (also usually combined into a collection) and four picture books:

Tales:

There is also a translation of three stories by Lyudmila Braude together with Elena Paklina, as well as a translation of three stories by Lyudmila Braude separately.

In 2010, all four picture books were published in Russia for the first time. Translation of the picture book “Oh, this Emil!” made by Lyubov Gorlina, the other three books - by Lilianna Lungina (they are excerpts from stories translated by her earlier).

Work tasks:

2. Analyze the image of Emil

3. Mark the changes that have occurred in the character of the protagonist

I became interested in other books by this writer and found the book "Emil from Lenneberg". And it did not deceive my expectations, as it turned out to be very interesting.

In my work, I want to analyze the image of Emil and consider the features of his character.

The name of Astrid Annie Emilia Lindgren is well known all over the world. "Andersen of our days" or "sorceress from Sweden", and it is clear to everyone who in question. Lindgren is the author of 35 books and has won many national awards. Undoubtedly, today the most famous children's writer. The heroes of her works speak almost 45 languages, including Russian. Astrid Lingren was born on November 14, 1907 in the town of Wimmebury in a peasant family. After leaving school, she left in search of work with Stockholm. Having changed several positions (secretary, stenographer, editor), she successfully married.

Lindgren's first story, Pippi Longstocking, was published in 1945-1952. Her appearance was facilitated by a serious illness of her beloved daughter, for whom the wonderful fairy tale. The reason that prompted the aspiring writer to send her work to a publisher is still a mystery. Success came to the book instantly. She was awarded several prizes, and the stunned author was offered a job at a children's publishing house. Since then, the stories of Astrid Lindgren "one after another, like a dove from the palm, took off into the world."

Emil's image

Emil is a ten year old boy. He lives with his family on a farm near the small village of Lenneberg. Life on the farm is busy and fun. Papa Emil and his mother, as well as hired assistants Alfred and Lina, work around the house all day long. They take care of the cattle, the garden and the house. Emil and his younger sister Ida play pranks among adults. Emil is the main champion in the whole of Lenneberg and the district in tricks. Everyone knows him and never ceases to be surprised by new stories with this little boy.

The main character traits of Emil: courage, perseverance, recklessness, inexhaustible optimism and kindness to people and animals.

Emil is a very loyal and reliable friend. This can be confirmed by the story of the rescue of Alfred. When Alfred became very ill, Emil was not afraid to go with him to the doctor in a heavy snowstorm on a horse and sleigh. The boy was very cold and scared, but the desire to save his friend was stronger and he overcame his fear.

Emil is a very energetic man and strives to act without thinking about the consequences of his actions. This led to the fact that there were big troubles for him and his loved ones. For example, having conceived with the help of a mousetrap to catch a mouse in the house, he almost deprived his father of a leg.

On another occasion, wanting to show off his catch of crayfish, he placed a bucket of them near his father's bed. The crayfish spread and scared the poor man to death.

It was because of such actions that he was often punished and sent to the wood for re-education.

Emil kind heart. People in the village knew about Emil's tricks, but appreciated him for his kindness and responsiveness.

Everyone remembers the story of the old people from the orphanage. Emil decided to arrange a Christmas present for them, tricked them into the house, fed them and sent them home on a sleigh. And their evil overseer deceived and put to sleep.

CHANGES IN THE CHARACTER OF THE MAIN CHARACTER

By the end of Astrid Lindgren's story about a mischievous boy, the protagonist has changed. Emil became more circumspect in his actions.

His natural kindness and responsiveness earned him great respect in the village. When the boy went to school, he became more serious and showed good ability to study. Friends and neighbors of Emil's family watched him and said: "This little boy will do a good job." And they were not wrong. At the end of the book, I learned that as an adult, Emil took over as chairman and was a very respected person.

Conclusion

While collecting material for my work, I learned a lot of interesting things about my favorite writer, Astrid Lindgren. It turns out that almost all the stories written by her took place in her native places: Wimmerbrü, Lönneberg, etc.

In the book Emil from Lönneberg, I was interested to learn about how people lived at the beginning of the 20th century: what children played, what people ate, what they dressed in, what customs they had.

When I was 10-11 years old, my dad went to school for a meeting. There my class teacher asked what I read in this moment, dad replied: "Astrid Lindgren." “Don't you think that Ksyusha has already grown out of these works?” The teacher asked, alluding to Carlson, and naively believing that Lindgren wrote only this work. To which dad objected to her: “Astrid Lindgren has other works, I myself read them with pleasure!” I remember this incident and I still feel sorry for my former class teacher, because she lost her great pleasure in the face of the works of the famous Swedish writer of books for children.

Unfortunately, of the characters in the works of Astrid Lindgren, many know only two: Carlson, who lives on the roof, and Pippi, long stocking. But there are other, no less interesting, worthy of attention characters. One of my favorites is Emil from Lönneberga. Lindgren told about him in the trilogy "Emil from Lönneberga" (1963), "New developments of Emil from Löenneberga" (1966), "Emil from Lönneberga is still alive" (1970). Later, another book appeared, “Ida and Emil from Lönneberga”, which tells about Emil and his younger sister Ida and consists of three stories: “How little Ida had to become a prankster” (1982), “Emil's Trick No. 325” (1985) and “ - There is nothing to be greedy! - said Emil from Lönneberga "(1985).

Emil is a real prankster! You can see this from the very first pages of the trilogy. Although Emil's appearance does not even think about it. “His eyes were round and blue. The face is also round and pink, the hair is blond and curly. Look at him - well, just an angel. But as Astrid Lindgren herself says: “Just don’t be touched ahead of time.” Indeed, Emil was constantly playing pranks, and his neat mother wrote down her son's tricks every day in a blue notebook, thanks to which we can enjoy Emil's fun adventures. Now he puts a tureen on his head, then he chews the green branches of a Christmas tree as greenery, then he hangs his sister Ida on the flagpole, then he goes without demand to the Hultsfred Plain, where, having earned a lot of money by singing, he has unrestrained fun. And here he puts the evil Commander in a wolf pit! But he eats "drunk cherries" that his mother told him to throw in the trash!

All his pranks are the embodiment of the child's fantasies, because he invents them himself, which is why they are interesting. It is impossible to tear yourself away from the book and thoughts arise: what else will Emil invent, what else will he please with interesting things?

But no matter what the leprosy is, punishment always follows. After any trick, Emil was locked in a carpentry, where he had to sit out for some time. He developed a habit - each time, sitting in the carpentry, he carved a wooden soldier, as a result, by the number of soldiers, one could understand how many tricks Emil had done.

Therefore, this work has the function of instructive. Lindgren herself says: "Emil was a little tomboy and stubborn, not at all as nice as you." She seems to be talking little reader: "You're not like that. You won't play pranks like that."

When Emil grows up, he becomes the chairman of the municipality and "the most important guy in all of Lönneberg." Why is Lindgren rewarding Emil? Is it only because he was punished for every trick?

Not at all because of this. The fact is that no matter how Emil misbehaves, he always remains kind. He tries to help everyone, but every time he gets into trouble. He is a cheerful, lively, albeit frivolous boy who succumbs to the call of his mischievous nature. He always separates the bad from the good and punishes the bad. Especially indicative is the case of the Commander, who "supervised the almshouse." She was a selfish person, she took things from the old people for herself. Emil punished her by playing the werewolf game with her. She fell into a wolf pit, and Emil pretended to want to shoot her because she was a werewolf. As a result, the Commander repented and asked everyone for forgiveness.

All stories about Emil are full of humor and optimism, because he never loses heart and will find a way out of any situation. Kindness, sincerity, laughter - these are the qualities of a nice child, despite how many mischief he has committed.

The collected works of Astrid Lindgren in six volumes appeared in our house thanks to my dad. I am grateful to him for drawing my attention to these books by reading them himself. That's the only reason I'm interested. Still would! Probably, any child will be interested in a children's book that an adult reads. I would gladly re-read the entire collected works of Lindgren again, because the most best books for children - these are those that you want to read, despite your age.
