Why compassion is an important human quality. What is empathy - do you need empathy and compassion in life? How to write a good essay

Do you need compassion and empathy in life?
A person does not tolerate orphanhood,
and it is the greatest sorrow.
A. Platonov
No one doubts that such feelings as compassion and sympathy are necessary in the life of every person. Without them, the modern world would become even more cruel and unfair. Because compassion and sympathy is the ability to empathize with someone else's grief, the desire to help a stranger who is in trouble. These feelings must be nurtured from early childhood on examples from life. It is not for nothing that they talk about this topic on television, write in newspapers. And also this topic continues to excite writers and poets.
In the story of Leonid Andreev "Kusak" the theme of love for our smaller brothers, in animals, namely, a dog, is touched upon. This example especially clearly shows how Kusaka's character changes when compassion is shown to her, even if it happens for a short time. So the vicious and biting dog gradually turned into a kind, devoted friend. The author describes this transformation in the following words: "Kusaka bloomed with all her dog soul." But her happiness was short-lived. The girl, having received Kusaki's love and devotion, left her and did not even say goodbye. And the dog was left alone. I think that after this meeting, she will trust people even less. But you can’t blame the girl for everything, because she herself is still a child. Probably, it was hard for her to part with her new friend. It was the first lesson in compassion in the girl's life and, hopefully, not the last. When she grows up, she will not be able to pass by a lonely person and will try to come to his aid. Because it is much more terrible when there are such people among us.
The main character from Andrei Platonov's story "Yushka" was just such a person. Despite the fact that all the people around him, both children and adults, humiliated and insulted him, Yushka himself managed to keep those feelings in himself that never manifested themselves in relation to him. He did not become embittered towards people, but patiently endured both beatings and insults, and surprisingly believed in a miracle. This "miracle" was supposed to be performed by a girl who wanted to become a doctor. And Yushka helped her as much as he could and believed that it was she who could change his life by curing him. What struck me most about this story was that adults watched the actions of children with indifference, instead of teaching them mercy and kindness. In the future, they may be in the place of Yushka. A person lives in a society, therefore, of course, it is very important to be able, and most importantly, to be willing to help both your loved ones and complete strangers. And at the same time, each of us hopes that when he finds himself in a difficult situation, he will definitely wait for support and sympathy. But most importantly, people should not be indifferent and cruel.

Sympathy is a noble emotion to which kind-hearted people are subjected. Such people do not think about their sympathy for a person, they are driven by an impulse to help. Despite hostility, conflicts, they are ready to support, listen and help with advice or deed.

A sign of sympathy is a manifestation of respect, a sense of duty to help, if it is within the power of a person. Many sacrifice themselves, their position, material wealth, but help a person they don’t like. In a difficult situation that seems hopeless, even a word of comfort can help and inspire hope. What seems like a trifle is an unbearable burden for other people. Having assessed your capabilities and chances, you need to take action, forgetting about your emotions and soberly assess the problem.

Sympathy is good. Even just by speaking out, a person will feel better. These are the situations we are told about. literary works. Writers show the worldly truth that one must sympathize, despite antipathy. By risking their lives, by making self-sacrifice, other lives will be saved. What matters is the situation and the outcome, not the participants.

The theme of sympathy is raised in Dostoevsky's novel Crime and Punishment. The image became popular and sunk into the soul of many readers. She lived with her father and stepmother. The family has a tragic fate. The father drank, and the stepmother was sick, the responsibility to provide for the family fell on the shoulders of a young girl. Despite her outward thinness and the comparison to a ghost because she was so pale, she was strong in character.

Did she feel sympathy for them? The stepmother blamed Sonya for her fate, reproached her with the extra piece she had eaten, and with her lamentations forced the girl to sell her body. Sonya, of course, felt compassion for them and that is why she dared to take such a step. She did not condemn them, did not dare to oppose, but sympathized with these two lost and lost souls.

Thus, sympathy is shown to any people. Like it or not, you need help. After all, perhaps they are not to blame for the current situation and they have nowhere to wait for help. It is you who last hope, a chance for a brighter future. In trouble, many people open up from a new perspective and there is no such thing as hatred for a person. There is a situation and there is a way out of it. And if you can help, why not? Perhaps, sympathizing with such people, you can look at them from the other side, and the trouble will unite and change the attitude towards them.

The feeling of compassion, sympathy or empathy is an internal state. It's because of other people's problems. Undoubtedly, empathy is one of the best human qualities. If you are able to empathize with others, then you understand the feelings of other people. This helps build strong relationships. It is important for every person to realize that he is supported.

What is compassion and empathy

But it is important to understand what compassion and empathy are. These feelings make a person better. Often these concepts are used in the form of synonymous words, it is believed that these are the same emotions.

If you delve into these words, then sympathy is a joint experience of some emotions, and compassion is a common suffering due to something. Both terms mean that a person passes along with another person his joy and sorrow, misfortune. Both feelings are caused by a situation where pity and support are needed. But these are the ones that are required to be manifested if they are truly needed.

Compassion and empathy are similar emotions, but the main difference lies in their manifestation.

You can often hear that in modern world only believers or poor people can sympathize and sympathize, and the rich do not think about anyone if this does not contribute to their well-being. There is an opinion that today for one truly sympathetic person there are 1000 those who envy others. The reason for this opinion is the nature of the person himself. Indifferent people cannot experience such feelings.

In everyday life, we show such emotions, taking into account specific situations. For example, one will give to the one who asks, and the other will pass by. The greatest compassion is shown by people in relation to their elderly parents, sick children, friends.

Often, when showing compassion, we can offend a person who does not need pity. Besides, true compassion is harmful. If the doctor sympathizes with the patient, worries too much, then he himself becomes ill. Therefore, he needs only to sympathize, but not to sympathize.

To show empathy is to listen to the interlocutor, to understand his emotions. To do this, they will have to pass through themselves. Sincerely sympathetic people are upset and worried in the same way as the one who needs this sympathy. This instills faith in a person and helps him forget his worries. Compassion makes people kind.

Why does a person need compassion?

But why do we need compassion and sympathy? If you are an emotional person, and you have this feeling too much, then you have noticed in yourself that it is difficult for you to feel the suffering of others. Someone else's negative energy wraps around you, you stop feeling the joy of life. Compassion has a depressing effect, takes away strength.

Don't get too caught up in other people's suffering. It is important to be able to stop and not harm yourself with other people's misfortunes.

In addition, if you constantly sympathize with one person, then this harms both her and you. Constant compassion becomes the reason that you unintentionally prevent the suffering person from realizing responsibility for his own actions. Due to constant sympathy, the person feels his weakness, the need for outside help. Such people are not able to live their own independent lives, they always need outside support.

Therefore, it is important not only to be able to empathize, but also to feel the border when you need to protect yourself from other people's emotions. Measure is needed in everything.

How to empathize with a person

In order not to harm yourself, you need to know how to properly empathize with a person:

  • it is required to understand who causes such a feeling - relatives or everyone around? From whom does it come? When you feel that you are taking other people's experiences too closely, . Don't get caught up in other people's problems. Support the person, convince him that he is not alone. But he needs to find a solution for the situation himself;
  • and return to its original state when you realize that you are plunging into other people's problems. Break off the conversation until you feel that you are able to understand the situation normally. Remember that all your senses affect the body. For this reason, for the normal state of the body and soul, it is important to experience to the maximum;

  • be able to move from unconscious sympathy to conscious action in a timely manner. Whenever you try to get rid of compassion for others, you will feel guilty. But do not consider yourself a person devoid of compassion. For support, it is not necessary to pass negative energy through yourself. Listen, but don't worry too much. Learn to protect yourself from negativity and excessive empathy.

Of course, it is important to remain a kind person. We all have a responsibility to help our friends and family. But you can do it without hurting yourself. It is important to maintain the balance of your own body in order to feel personal happiness.

Teaching Empathy and Compassion in Children

It is worth noting that from early childhood, serious attention must be paid to the education of compassion and sympathy in children. A child who is not able to show such emotions grows up, and sometimes they become a true misfortune of their parents and themselves.

The ability to sympathize and sympathize with others is only in those children whose parents set such an example with their behavior. In order for the baby to take care and empathize with others when they have problems, it is necessary to early age protect him from punishment.

To bring up such qualities in children is possible only by one's own example. It is important for parents to show the child how to behave.

If mom and dad show mutual courtesy, and are also polite with other people, show care, then the baby will get used to behaving in the same way. The researchers found that in the family, men are more capable of experiencing empathy and compassion. But after all, we are used to believing that they are stronger, therefore they show less feelings. When a woman feels bad, a man helps, not just sympathizing, but showing compassion and care. He is ready to help his beloved around the clock.

As for women, they are able to experience sympathy for a short period of time. This is because when a man is unwell, a woman, seeing his emotions, first feels compassion. But then, noticing how he tries to seem strong, the woman's compassion disappears.

Even if men express complaints about life, they are not ready for the compassion of others. When showing sympathy for men, there is a chance to catch their pride, because all representatives of the stronger sex are afraid to seem weak.

What to guide in life

In some situations, it is difficult to understand how to be guided in life - the mind or the heart. There is no single correct answer. Each situation requires a different approach. Both the heart and the mind can make mistakes.

It is worth conducting a logical analysis of the situation, making important decisions, taking into account the opinion of reason and knowledge. Every day we all use experience and knowledge in practice, we use reason. Most decisions come to be made using the dictates of the mind, because some things in life are simply inappropriate. You don't walk across the road the way you want to, without following the rules. It will cause disaster sooner or later. Applying knowledge, we are convinced of safety, and only then we decide what to do.

But if it comes to your own emotions, desires, then the mind becomes an interfering element. In matters of the heart, you often have to live with your heart, turning off logic. Often a person is not able to do something because he is afraid of the consequences. But in such a situation, it is better to believe the call of the heart, and not the mind, so as not to regret in the future.

Fears and inability to believe in yourself are created by the mind, they are based on accumulated experience. If you have experienced this kind of fear before, when you make a decision today, you will feel fear and anxiety. This will cause indecision. For this reason, it is important to set goals for yourself, listen to your heart and act on its promptings.

Question

Text

What are the feelings at the same time

Who it the protagonist?

Yushka worked in the forge as an assistant to the chief blacksmith, because he could not see well, and he had little strength in his hands. He was short and thin; his eyes were white, like those of a blind man, and there was always moisture in them, like never-ceasing tears. He did not drink tea and did not buy sugar, he drank water, and wore the same clothes without changing: in the summer he went around in trousers and a blouse burned through by sparks; in winter, he put on a short fur coat over his blouse, and shod his feet in felt boots, which he hemmed in the fall and wore every winter all his life.

self-sacrifice

How did adults treat Yushka?

Adult elderly people offended Yushka. They did not like the fact that Yushka did not look like them, that he was always silent, did not swear with them. They believed that Yushka was to blame for everything, and they immediately beat him. From the meekness of Yushka, an adult person came to bitterness and beat him more, and in this evil forgot his grief for a while.

Cruelty

Meekness

How were the children treated?

The children, seeing old Yushka quietly wandering, stopped playing, picked up dry branches, pebbles, rubbish from the ground and threw them at Yushka. The old man did not answer the children and was not offended by them. The children were surprised Yushka that he was alive, but he himself was not angry with them. Then the children again threw objects at him from the ground, ran up to him, touched him and pushed him. Yushka walked and was silent. It was boring and not good for them to play if Yushka is always silent, does not frighten them and does not chase after them. And they pushed the old man even harder and shouted at him so that he responded to them with evil and cheered them up. But Yushka did not touch them and did not answer them. When the children hurt Yushka too much, he told them:

What are you, my relatives! You must love me. Why do you all need me? Wait, don't touch me, you hit me in the eyes with earth, I can't see.

The children were still pushing Yushka and laughing at him. They were glad that you can do whatever you want with him, but he does nothing. Yushka was also happy. He believed that children love him, that they need him, only they do not know how to love a person and do not know what to do for love, and therefore offend him.

Anger

Sympathy

Love

Forgiveness

Where did Yushka go every summer?

Yushka every summer left the owner for a month. Where he went, no one knew. Even Yushka himself forgot, and one summer he said that his sister lives in the village, and the next that his niece lives there. Sometimes he said that he was going to the village, and at other times, that he was going to Moscow itself. And people thought that Yushkin’s beloved daughter lived in a distant village, just as gentle and superfluous to people, as Father. A month later, Yushka returned back to the city and again worked from morning to evening in the forge.

Caring for others

Death of Yushka.

But year by year, Yushka grew weaker, chest disease tormented his body and exhausted him. One summer he did not go to his distant village. He walked, as usual in the evening, from the forge to the owner for the night. The passer-by laughed at him:

Why are you trampling the earth, God's scarecrow! Even if you died, maybe it would be more fun without you.

Yushka was angry for the first time in his life:

Why am I disturbing you? My mother gave birth to me, just like you. I, too, the whole world needs, like you, without me, too, it means it’s impossible.

The passerby was angry that Yushka spoke and equated himself with him. Swinging, the passerby with the force of anger pushed Yushka in the chest, and he fell backwards. After lying down, Yushka turned his face down and did not move or get up.

malice

Death

Efim Dmitrievich's guest.

They remembered Yushka again only in late autumn. One bad day a girl came to the smithy and asked Yefim Dmitrievich. She told her fate. She is an orphan. Efim Dmitrievich placed her with a family in Moscow, then sent her to a boarding school. Every year he came to visit her and brought money for the whole year so that she could live and study. Now she graduated from the university and became a doctor treating patients with consumption.

Love

Kindness

How did Yushka manage to maintain benevolence and a good attitude towards people?

First of all, Yushka understood and loved nature. It was the love of nature that grew into a love of people. On the way to Moscow, Yushka did not hide his love for living beings. He bowed to the ground, kissed the flowers, trying not to breathe on them, he stroked the bark on the trees and picked up butterflies and beetles that had fallen dead from the path. For a long time I peered into their faces, feeling orphaned without them.

Love for nature and people

Why did Yushka die?

Yushka died not only from physical pain. His soul hurt. He did not understand why the world is full of soulless people. Why do people lack empathy and compassion?

Lack of empathy and compassion

How did those around Yushka accept the death?

Without Yushka, life has become worse for people. Now all the malice remained among the people and wasted among them, because there was no Yushka, who unrequitedly endured every other evil, mockery.

It's hard to live without good people

L. Andreev "Kusaka"

Who is Kusaka?

She belonged to no one; she did not have her own name, and no one could tell where she was all through the long frosty winter and what she fed on.

A pity

How did adults and children feel about Kusaka?

The guys threw stones and sticks at her, the adults hooted merrily and whistled terribly

Cruelty

Why didn't the dog trust people?

Once they took pity on her and caressed her. It was a drunken peasant returning from a tavern. Today he loved everyone and felt sorry for everyone, he also felt sorry for the dog, dirty and ugly. When the dog came up to him and lay down on his back in front of him, his mood changed. He poked her in the side with the toe of a heavy boot. Since then, the dog did not trust people who wanted to caress her, and ran away, and sometimes attacked with anger, trying to bite.

Cruelty, malice

How did the dog start new life?

Spring came, and the quiet dacha, where the dog settled, resounded with loud voices, trampling, laughter and singing of people. The gardeners who arrived were kind people, breathed the air, saw everything around them as harmless, it made them even kinder.

hope for happiness

Who gave the dog a name?

A pretty girl in a brown dress - Lelya. Lelya said: I love you, Cutter, I love you very much. You don't believe me, Nipper?

Faith

How has the dog changed?

Kusaka blossomed with all her canine soul. She had a name, she belonged to the people and could serve them. She has changed beyond recognition: long hair has cleared, turned black and began to shine like satin.

Happiness

Devotion

What happened in autumn?

Autumn lit up with yellow lights, the sky began to cry with frequent rains, and cottages began to empty. Unfamiliar people came and began to take out things. Biter, vaguely foreseeing trouble, ran to the edge of the garden and looked out at the terrace from there. Lelya went to the station. Kusaka ran after her. And only at the station Lelya remembered that she had not said goodbye to Kusaka.

Betrayal

Why did Kusaka howl?

Kusaka rushed about in the footsteps of the departed people for a long time. The rooms were empty. From everywhere began to approach the darkness of the long autumn night. Quickly and dully, he filled the empty dacha. The night has come. The dog howled plaintively and loudly. ringing, sharp as despair, this howl burst into the monotonous sound of rain, cut through the darkness and rushed over the bare field. The dog howled—evenly, insistently, and hopelessly calm. And to those who heard this howl, it seemed that it was groaning and rushing towards the light itself. dark night. The dog howled.

write in your work . Let's listen.

Every living being, whether human or animal, has a soul. It can rejoice or suffer. If there is more joy in life, his soul is kind, and it also does good to those around him. And if it is offended by the world, then the soul is full of malice.

This will be the thesis of your essay.

The second part is the proof. We have given you arguments from the stories, use them in your work.

Conclusion.- What would the world be like if people did not have empathy and compassion? (The world would be cruel, many unkind deeds would be committed on earth. People would bring each other a lot of trouble and suffering. I would like to rename the phrase "Beauty will save the world" to "Kindness, mercy, sympathy and compassion will save the world."

And write this down as a conclusion in your essay.

So let's make a plan in notebooks
