The best works for children 2 5 years old. What to read to a child in two years. About princesses for preschoolers

Read to kid you can from birth, but read with baby we start not before the baby learns to sit. It is best to start reading at the age of one. For this age, choose books made of thick cardboard, small format with realistic illustrations - drawings or photographs - in which the proportions of objects are respected. Realistic - this means that animals should not be dressed in clothes, and cars should be depicted without eyes. The ideal option is one illustration per page. At the same time, there should be no text at all, or there should be very little of it, for example, only a word with the name of an object.

The child grows, and more and more wants to know the world around him. At 2–3 years old, children are already interested in what we are doing at home, what is happening on the street, and through books we introduce them to this world. At this stage, we offer books with a small text, poems and nursery rhymes. At the same time, the stories must be realistic. We do not read to a child texts with talking animals dressed in clothes. The ideal option is stories about the children themselves, about their life or life in the family. Books with small text will be needed by the baby when he later begins to read. A small text will not scare the child, but large print help you understand the words.

Children's books from 3 to 4 years

At the age of 3-4 years, the child is ready to listen to more long texts. It is important that the books have enough illustrations. If we have a choice between buying a book with a collection of stories or short stories in the form of individual books, it is better to choose the second option. By replacing them, you will support the child's interest in reading. Remember that books of a large volume and format are quite difficult for children to flip through.

List of books for children 3-4 years old:

  • "Mom is always there" (Veronic Kaplan);
  • "Blue Whale" (Jenny Desmond);
  • "What the Seed Dreams of" (Dianna Aston and Sylvia Long);

The 21st century was marked by the era of technology, but at the same time moral values people did not change much. Books, as before, instill good personality traits, teach correct behavior. The age of 2-3 years is good because the child is already able to perceive books not just as a toy, he gradually begins to realize the meaning of the stories described, understand the plot, express his opinion about what he heard and saw.

It is worth noting that each child is unique, so the attitude to books can vary significantly. Some kids like to listen to stories for hours on end, others lack perseverance or desire. But, regardless of this, parents of children of 2-3 years old should gradually instill in their hearts a love of reading, nurture their interest in literature. The presented material will tell about which books it is worth starting to develop a child and how to do it correctly.

The best books for children from 2 years old: how to choose the right one

Parents, like children, have their own characteristics and preferences, including books. Choosing the first literature, you should rely on the behavior of your baby. What does he like more - poems, fairy tales or stories? Does he have favorite characters? How long can he concentrate on reading? It is also worth considering that children of 2-3 years old perceive new information well.

If a certain book "did not enter" the child at this stage, it is likely that he simply has not grown up to it. Come back to her in six months or a year, maybe he will appreciate her later.

Good books for 2 year olds are different:

  • High-quality, clear and beautiful illustrations. Visual pictures are one of the most important criteria when choosing the best book, because the kid is imbued with what he heard, in a clear connection with the visual component. Pictures help the child to grasp the order of events in the story or to visualize what is explained in the verse. Why high-quality illustrations should be given great attention:
    • Clear and contrasting images help the baby focus his eyes on what he sees. By the age of 2, the ability to concentrate is just beginning to form, so the drawing should not be too voluminous. It is recommended that all images be drawn as clearly as possible, and the pictures should not be a continuous multi-colored spot. Images can be bright, but in moderation (rainbow range).
    • Pictures introduce children 2-3 years old to people and objects. In animated characters (children, animals, plants), the child sees himself, so the illustrations should be as believable as possible. Ideally, if the proportions of the bodies of the main characters will be similar to the proportions of the baby's body.
    • Images help develop artistic taste in a child of 2-3 years. In fact, reading books introduces the baby to art. Their aesthetic development largely depends on what children see in books.
    • Believable pictures teach kids the basics of retelling. If the child sees and recognizes familiar images and objects, then over time he will be able to tell about the events taking place in the work.
    • With the help of illustrated books, you can develop an interest in reading even in a child who initially reacted to this activity without due enthusiasm.
  • Concise and meaningful text. Children 2-3 years old are not yet able to sit still and listen for a long time. No need to strive as early as possible to introduce the child to "Harry Potter" or fairy tales about the adventures of the Moomins. Short stories and rhymes are the best option for kids of this age.
  • Classic. Books for children at 2 years old should not be too pretentious and modern. Focus on your own memories, think about what works were of interest to you. It is not necessary to be limited only to Russian classics. Today, wonderful fairy tales and poems by foreign authors are freely available.

Guided by these simple criteria, you can easily select books that will be of interest to you and your baby.

The best educational books for children from 2 years old

Children at the age of 2-3 years already have some idea of the world around them. They are familiar with the names of objects, types of animals, primary colors and seasons. The key task that books should fulfill is to improve the horizons of the baby and expand his vocabulary.

The best educational books in this period can be classified as:

  • folk tales;
  • poems;
  • stories of Russian writers;
  • works of foreign authors;
  • stories about nature, plants and animals;
  • special educational literature.

Works intended for one-year-old babies remain relevant at the age of 2-3 years.

Folk tales

Wise and logical fairy tales should definitely become part of your home library. Among Russian folk, pay attention to:

  • "Turnip". This story has become traditional for a reason. It is useful in that it can be used both as a ready-made script for home performances and as a teaching guide.
  • "Ryaba Hen". Little readers are crazy about the image of grandfather, grandmother and their chicken. A simple plot is easily understood by a baby at 2-3 years old. The child will sincerely empathize with the grief of a broken testicle.
  • "Kolobok". The main character is sure to please the kid. And his misadventures will teach the child to obey adults and not talk to strangers.
  • Teremok. An old fairy tale with a clear plot: the animals are worried because of the appearance of new animals of increasing size. This work perfectly develops figurative thinking in a 2-3 year old baby. He desperately empathizes with the characters, imagining the events in his head.
  • "Zayushkina hut". The kids sympathize with the poor bunny, who, out of the kindness of his soul, let the fox into the house, and she took him and drove him away. By analyzing the plot, children learn to understand. The staging of this fairy tale will reveal the creative potential of the little reader.

Folk tales have become such for a reason. Their main message is faith in goodness. In addition, these works will allow the child to appreciate all the richness of Russian speech.

Poems

Books with poems for children at 2-3 years old are another mandatory home attribute. Toddlers like to listen to poems of all shapes and sizes - from quatrains to whole fairy tales. Children will be interested in the work of the following poets:

  • Agniya Barto. It is impossible to imagine your childhood without the works “The hostess abandoned the bunny” or “Our Tanya cries loudly”. Collections of poems by this poetess will be an excellent tool for teaching children to memorize quatrains by heart.
  • Korney Chukovsky. The well-known "Fly-Tsokotuha", "Aibolit", "The Stolen Sun" and "Cockroach" will appeal to children with their interesting plot and simplicity of presentation.
  • Samuil Marshak. To teach a child to admire the beauty of a poetic word will help the verses "Mustached Striped", "Giant", "Vanka-Vstanka".

Do not disregard the works of Usachov, Blaginina, Tokmakova, Mayakovsky and Demyanov.

Stories of Russian writers

In books, 2-3-year-olds are very interested in bright pictures. Cute fairy tales and stories, complemented by rich illustrations, will surely delight the baby. For many years, Suteev's stories with his personal drawings have been considered an example for most parents. It is recommended to add to your home library:

  • "Chicken and Duckling". This fairy tale can become a favorite even for kids more younger age. Each sentence of the work has its own drawing, showing the events and actions of the main characters live. The kid will empathize with the characters and laugh out loud, because the fairy tale has a humorous content.
  • "Three kittens". A funny story about the magical transformation of kittens. The kid will fall in love with her not only because of the funny pictures, but also for the good story. In addition, this book will easily teach your child to distinguish colors.
  • "Under the Mushroom" A touching adaptation of the folk tale "Teremok". The situation described on the pages of the work teaches kids kindness and mutual assistance. The wisdom of a fairy tale is "in cramped quarters, but not offended." It also allows you to develop a useful, good skill in a child - the ability to think logically. This is facilitated by the final question of the author: “Why did the mushroom grow?”.
  • "A bag of apples". This is probably Suteev's most popular work. For the imagination of the crumbs, the plot of the fairy tale will be very twisted: the caring Papa Hare goes to the dark forest for apples to feed his large family. But his kind nature prevents him from coping with the task - he distributes all the goodies to the hungry animals he meets on the way. Forced to return, he encounters a wolf. But, in the end, goodness wins: Papa Bunny is at home, and he and his family are rewarded with treats from friends. This tale can be considered a guide to educating a child in generosity, kindness and responsiveness.

Also in the list of books for children in 2 years should be added:

  • "Masha the Confused" by L. Voronkova;
  • "Bobik visiting Barbos" N. Nosov;
  • "Fire" and "From one to ten. Cheerful account "S. Marshak;
  • "Daisies in January" by M. Plyatskovsky.

You need to introduce children to books gradually, so be sure to be patient, good mood and free time.

Works by foreign authors

  • "Flopsy, Mopsy and Cotton Tail" B. Potter. The characters invented by the famous English writer will be remembered by all children of 2-3 years old. The fairy tale will teach mutual understanding, responsiveness and kindness.
  • "Snail and Whale" D. Donaldson. At one time, this work became the winner of the world competition in the nomination "The best book with illustrations." Exciting stories will introduce a 2-3-year-old kid to an unusual underwater world.
  • "The Little Prince" A. Saint-Exupery. The fairy tale will appeal not only to children, but also to adults. Strange story about the adventures of an ordinary adult and an unusual child will teach the baby to think figuratively and look at life situations from different sides.

Stories about animals and nature

The best books for children 2-3 years old can be stories about everything related to nature. Babies love this period. the world, they sincerely admire animals, trees, butterflies and the weather. 2-3-year-olds enthusiastically “work” in the country, water the beds and take care of their pets.   • "Stories" by Konstantin Ushinsky;
  • "Mouse Peak" by Vitaly Bianchi;
  • "My first zoology" by Evgeny Charushin;
  • "Stories for Children" by Leo Tolstoy.

These wonderful books will be enough to introduce the baby at 2-3 years old to the flora and fauna.

Special Education Literature

Engage in developmental books should be started as early as possible. Two to three years is a fertile age for babies. During this period, they master drawing and modeling, learn to build towers and put together puzzles. With the help of developing books, you can speed up this process. In any toy or stationery store, a wide range of educational literature is presented:

  • "Grammateka". Books of this kind will help acquaint children with numbers and letters. Interesting illustrations and unusual tasks will turn the learning process into a fun game.
  • "Tests". Books with tests for children 2-3 years old are considered almost the best educational aids. Simple questions for comparison, exclusion of superfluous and differentiation will contribute to the development of logic, and characters taken from your favorite fairy tales will pleasantly brighten up the time preparing for kindergarten.
  • "Smart child". Books with sets of small exercises will help children learn certain information well. Each situation is considered from many sides at once: for example, having learned a new number, the child will have to find all its images on the page, paint them in a certain color or distinguish them from other images.

It is also worth stocking up on coloring books for children as young as 2 years old. Kids get great aesthetic pleasure from drawing, therefore, by combining reading and creativity, you will only get a positive result.

The book is just one element of education

remember, that best books not replace parental love and care. Therefore, when teaching a child something new, do not waste time on strife, but cherish every minute together. Think about what memories you will have of this unique time - the time of children's acquaintance with books.

Also during this period it is worth paying attention to the development of:

  • emotional response of the baby;
  • cooperation skill;
  • self-confidence;
  • initiative and independence;
  • responsiveness and communication skills.

For various reasons, adults may not have enough time for long and productive classes with a child for books, however, there is a way out of this situation. Online games and courses from BrainApps will help both parents and kids. Hundreds of simulators will contribute to the development of thinking, attention and memory. Most importantly, you can do both together, and in turn. Reading the best educational books and spending time together playing interesting games from the service will perfectly complement each other and allow you to develop all the most necessary skills.

Advice for parents: "Reading together"

Description: I offer you advice for parents. It describes recommendations for organizing joint reading with children 2-3 years old.

Pushkin said well and correctly: "Reading is the best teaching!" And if we talk about reading to children, then this is also a way to pass a boring road, and entertainment, and communication, and the development of imagination, and the opportunity to instill in a child good taste and much more.
Every parent wants his child to have such qualities as kindness, honesty and responsibility, love and care, sensitivity and tenderness. And for our parental happiness, we can get support in the world of culture. One of the cultural means in the development of the child is the book. The book can teach and entertain, set tasks and allow them to look for solutions.
Since a small child cannot read on his own, we adults must adapt our reading to his perception, become for him a personal book and a living voice, because he needs an interested co-presence. It is very important for the baby that you are near, that you are together, that you have found time for him, to please and give a piece of your warmth. When you read aloud, you adjust to the perception of your child, sensitively reacting to his feelings, understanding or not understanding, to the fact that he is tired and distracted - neither an audio recording nor a cartoon can simply do this. But "soulless", "mechanical" reading does more harm than good. That's why it's so important that family reading took place in an atmosphere of care and love.
The child begins his acquaintance with fiction since birth. Reading aloud to unintelligent babies is not at all as meaningless as it seems at first glance. Firstly, this is a kind of communication with the child, and secondly, by listening to you, the baby learns to speak. Poems and songs are especially useful. As soon as the child is born, the mother hums him a lullaby. You ask why she to him? A lullaby for him is a set of meaningless sounds. He is soothed and mesmerized by the melodiousness of his mother's voice. Her love and care, conveyed through a lullaby, create a feeling of security and trust in the world in the baby.
Like lullabies, nursery rhymes and pestles remain in the baby's reading circle during both infancy and early age. Repeating during awakening, eating, bathing, getting ready for a walk and other routine moments - pestles and nursery rhymes prepare the baby for what will happen now.
The fairy tale is a traditional children's genre. The tale first appears in the circle children's reading when the child's age approaches two years. It is better to start acquaintance with a fairy tale with cumulative (chain) fairy tales. They are being replaced by fairy tales about animals - these fairy tales can be conditionally called the first textbook on psychology. human relations. For the harmonious development of the child in home library should be folk and author's tales.
If you started reading a fairy tale, and the baby fell asleep or was distracted, then next time you will have to start from the first page. It is still difficult for young children to remember and combine different episodes of the same story in their heads. Do not be lazy to read the same thing over and over, if your baby asks for it. Use children's love of repetition to memorize poems and stories. Do not be afraid to take on texts with words unfamiliar to the child. First, most likely, he understands much more than you think. Secondly, the expansion vocabulary great for language development. When reading to an older child, it is important, with the help of intonation and emotional responses, to help him understand the character of the characters, convey their mood, and set an emotional assessment of the event.
A lot of fun can bring you and a two-three-year-old kid games based on your favorite fairy tales or small home performances in which he is given a feasible role. It’s good to watch a cartoon based on a fairy tale you read or turn reading at night into a movie screening session by turning on a slide projector. And the more reading pleasures there are in your child's life, the more likely it is that the taste for reading will remain with him for life.
It's great when reading together becomes a family tradition!

For a long time I have been going to write about the books that we read from 2 to 3 years old. But the writing of the article was constantly postponed, as something new and interesting constantly appeared in our library. As a result, so many favorite books have accumulated that it is now impossible to put them in one article. Therefore, I divided our list of books into several parts - works by foreign authors,.

Recently, Russian publishing houses have begun to translate modern hits for children with great zeal. foreign literature. And of course, among the worthwhile works, it also translates something that does not have such great value for young readers. I hope this list helps you a little in making your choice. foreign books for your baby.

So, books for children 2-3 years old (what we didn’t like, I don’t include in this list):

  • D. Donaldson "The Gruffalo" (Ozone, labyrinth, My shop)

I'll start with the world famous writer - Julia Donaldson. In Russia, her books have become especially popular in combination with the magnificent illustrations by Axel Shefler and the translation by Marina Boroditskaya.

So, "The Gruffalo" is a fairy tale about a little mouse, which, being, at first glance, an easy prey for hungry predators, was able to outwit them all, including the most terrible monster - the Gruffalo. The moral of the book is that even if you are small and weak, by turning on your ingenuity, you can easily defeat those who are bigger and stronger than you.

The plot is quite accessible to a 2-year-old child. And it’s hard to remain indifferent to the cute monster Gruffalo, I think it was thanks to his charm that the book was among my daughter’s favorites for a long time.

  • D. Donaldson "The Gruffalo's Daughter" (Ozone, labyrinth, My shop)

It seemed to me that this book is a little harder for a child to perceive than the first part. And if “The Gruffalo” can be safely read to a child right from the age of 2, then “Daughter” should be postponed until at least 2.5 years old. Nevertheless, the tale is no less interesting than the first part. The mouse once again impresses with its resourcefulness.

On top of that, another useful thought is well tracked in this book - you should not go far without the permission of your parents, it can be dangerous.

  • D. Donaldson "If the house is crowded" (Ozone, labyrinth, My shop)

Well, I personally really like this masterpiece (although my daughter’s attitude to this book is much calmer than to the same “Gruffalo”). The book charges with optimism, because the main idea in it is “Never whine, but appreciate what you have.”

The old woman lived in a small house, and although she had everything for happiness, she was always dissatisfied with the life and size of her house. This continued until the good sage advised her to invite a chicken into the house first, and then a goat, a pig, a cow. Naturally, having lived with such neighbors, she finally appreciated the delights of her former life.

Thus, the book is useful for both children and parents to read!

  • D. Donaldson "Snail and Whale" (Ozone, labyrinth, My shop)

Another work of the inimitable trio of Donaldson, Shefler and Boroditskaya. Everything is here: magnificent illustrations, a pleasant style, and a story about courage and ingenuity. This time the protagonist- a small snail who, contrary to the advice of her homebody friends, went to trip around the world, and in addition to seeing the whole world, she also saved her huge whale friend, showing unprecedented quick wits. I rate this book 2.5+.

  • D. Donaldson "Riding the broomstick" (Ozone, labyrinth, My shop)

Judging by the reviews, some believe that this book is noticeably inferior compared to other Donaldson masterpieces, because there is a different translator. Taisia and I are forced to disagree with this opinion, because. The book was read to holes, we liked it very much. Yes, perhaps the translation is not always as coherent as we would like, but the magnificent story of friendship and mutual assistance did not suffer at all. Yes, and my daughter quickly memorized poems - therefore, they are not so bad

  • The Brothers Grimm "The Bremen Town Musicians" (Ozone, labyrinth, My shop)

Taisia had been a fan of the cartoon of the same name for quite a long time, so it was also decided to purchase the book. To the surprise of her daughter, the plot of the printed version differs significantly from the cartoon, there is neither Troubadour nor the Princess. We can say that this tale is a prehistory to the cartoon, because it tells about how friends met and became musicians.

The book does not have that positive and holiday that reigns in the cartoon. Here, on the contrary, one can feel the boundless longing of the heroes - they were all cruelly rejected by their former owners and went into the unknown in search of a new life. The mood of the characters is very well conveyed through the wonderful pastel illustrations by Igor Oleinikov. I think that for emotional development a child, he needs books with different moods, and therefore the book will take its rightful place in the baby's library.

There are other very good editions of The Bremen Town Musicians, for example, here or here.

  • Brothers Grimm "Little Men" (Ozone, labyrinth, My shop)

There are books with morals, and there are books with magic. This one, of course, belongs to the second category, reading it, you plunge headlong into a fairy tale. To the shoemaker, whose business went very badly, little men come to the rescue. Every night they sew boots for him, and they do it so well that the shoemaker's boots are in great demand, and things are going uphill. Unusual little men in the absolutely unusual illustrations by Anton Lomaev, it seems, can be looked at endlessly. They work so amicably with an awl, a hammer, scissors that it is simply mesmerizing.

The book is ideal for a two-year-old child: there is little text, and there are many interesting details in the pictures that attract kids so much.

  • Hans Christian Andersen "The Princess and the Pea" (Ozone, labyrinth, My shop)

Another magical book from the artist Anton Lomaev. The ratio of text and pictures is suitable for a child of 2 years. The plot of the tale is simple and, I think, everyone knows. And the illustrations will speak for themselves.

  • A. Preisen "About a kid who could count to ten" (Ozone, labyrinth, My shop)

This and the following tale are often printed in collections combined with Suteev's illustrations, for example, in such (Ozone, labyrinth, My shop). But since these stories were not in our collection, I bought them separately. And she didn't regret it at all. Both stories are very bright and kind, from my childhood. The first, about a kid, will help the baby in mastering the ordinal count. The moral of the second story, about the little raccoon, can be expressed something like this: "Smile at the world, and then it will smile back at you."

Suteev's drawings need no introduction, they are amazing as always.

  • L. Muur "Little raccoon and the one who sits in the pond" (Ozone, labyrinth, My shop)

  • L. Clinting "Castor" (Ozone, labyrinth, My shop)

The series about Castor's beaver is quite large, since Castor willingly takes on any business: he sews, bakes pies, and takes care of plants ... This series is something like the very first and most simplified encyclopedia about the world around us, only in art form. We have two books in this series - " Castor bakes a pie" and " Castor's vegetable garden". My daughter loves both of them. The books in an accessible form describe the process of making a cake / caring for plants, and name the main components of the process. And in general, everything in this book is good - both the pictures and the cognitive side, I don’t like, perhaps, only a very small amount of text on each spread. Still, a child’s interest in such topics wakes up after 2.5 years, closer to 3, and at this time the child can already digest significantly more text than 2 lines on a page. You have to additionally think out the text for the author.

Still, I find the Castor series very useful. Recently, my daughter has awakened a great interest in cooking, and I think the book “Castor Bakes a Pie” played an important role in this.

  • Z. Miler, E. Petishka, G. Doskochilova " Mole. The big Book» (Ozone, My shop, read) and " Mole. Stories in pictures» (Ozone, My shop, read)

It so happened that Taisiya did not watch the famous cartoon about Mole, so the books came in handy for her. But I think the book will also appeal to those who are already familiar with Mole from cartoons. The book, of course, has its advantages: firstly, the cartoon is without words; unlike the book, nothing is explained to the small viewer in it; You need to have time to catch all the video sequences.

The stories in this book, although long, are quite simple, I think they are just right for educating a child's perseverance while reading. All the pictures here are taken from the cartoon, there are a lot of them in the book. Confused in this edition is only a noticeable smell of paint, otherwise the book is very worthy and worth it to be repeatedly read to the baby.

  • D. Kulot "Little crocodile and big love" (Ozone, labyrinth, My shop)

A very funny and simply charming book about love that knows no barriers! The crocodile and the giraffe love each other very much, only they have one problem - the difference in height is 2 meters 43 centimeters. But this does not stop them, they still want to be together. They tried to arrange their family life both in a small crocodile house (but there the giraffe kept banging its head against the ceiling), and in a large giraffe house (but even there life became impossible for the crocodile). And when everyday life began to affect their relationship, they nevertheless came up with and implemented together a very bold and unusual solution to their problem.

The book shows the child (and the parent) an excellent example of tolerance, teaches that loving people, even if they are very different, they can always find a solution to their problems and become happy with a little effort.

The illustrations in the book are beyond praise, only the text again, in my opinion, is not enough. You have to add a lot of yourself in order to maintain the interest of the child. There are other stories in this series: Crocodile and Giraffe - a real couple in love, Little crocodile with a big heart, but according to the description and reviews, I chose this one and did not regret it.

  • Jacob Martin Street "Mimbo-Jimbo" (Ozone, labyrinth, My shop)

Books from the Mimbo-Jimbo series are more entertaining than instructive. The pictures are very simple, there is not much text. But not all the same, only educational books to read, you can sometimes have fun! Book " mimbo jimbo"My daughter really liked it, during her first readings she sincerely laughed almost from beginning to end. We also purchased "", but I think it was quite possible to stop at one book.

In general, books from this series may come in handy later, when the child learns to read on his own, since there is not much text, it is written large, and the plot is funny, this will motivate the baby to read.

  • Chisato Tashiro "House of Mouse" (Ozone, labyrinth, My shop)

Left without their homes, five mice went in search of a suitable place for a new home. In the end, they ended up in a city dump, where they decided to build their new home from a pile of things thrown away by people.

The book remarkably develops the child's imagination, tk. from it the baby learns about what things familiar to us can turn into. For example, a mitten can become a bed, and a mug can become a bath for a mouse. You can make a Ferris wheel out of bicycle wheels, and if you turn a chair over, you get a roof. And there are many such examples here. You can look at the book for a long time, finding more and more new details.

  • D. McKee "Elmer" (Ozone, labyrinth, My shop)

Elephant Elmer has long been popular all over the world. I can’t say that this book became a hit with us, but both my daughter and I certainly liked it, since the story in it is quite interesting and instructive. The main idea that the author wants to convey to the baby is that you should not strive to become like everyone else, anyway, nothing good will come of it, and if it does, you will lose the most valuable thing - your individuality. This is exactly what the cheerful Elmer, the checkered elephant, who could not put up with the usual gray days. The elephant is really very cute, I want to look at it, name the colors of its cells, have fun with it.

From the Soviet children's classics, I will move on to modern children's translated literature.

Probably everyone who is at least a little interested in books for children has heard about Julia Donaldson's books. This author has very pleasant and easy-to-remember poems that contain humor and a play on words (for which, of course, many thanks to the translator Marina Boroditskaya). But what makes these books remarkable is not only the poetry, but also the illustrations by Axel Scheffler.

We have several books by Julia Donaldson. This is "The Gruffalo", "The Gruffalo's Daughter", "Chelovetkin", "Superworm", "Giant's New Outfit", "If the house is crowded". The book is highly praised "I want to see my mother" but I haven't gotten around to buying it yet.
I could not decide to buy for a long time, as the books are quite expensive. However, after reading the rave reviews for these books over and over again, I gave up and bought these books for my children. First one book, then a second, then a third...

In my opinion, the books will be very interesting children 2-4 years old, but they may also be of interest to an older child. When I read these books to my three-year-old son, my eldest son (he was then five and a half years old) joined our company and listened with interest.

It is very interesting how the artist “connects” different works of Julia Donaldson with his illustrations, transferring characters already familiar to the reader from one book to another, even where they are not mentioned in the text. Here in the book "Chelovetkin" on the New Year tree, we suddenly see a toy figure of the Gruffalo. And in another book we notice that the daughter of Gruffalo is holding a doll in her hands - that very Chelovetkin. Children enthusiastically accept this game of the artist. It happens that a child becomes attached to the same books, does not want to read new ones, does not accept them - but with the books of Julia Donaldson this most likely will not happen, including because of the work of the illustrator.

If you don't have the books in this series, start collecting them from the now classic The Gruffalo. I'm sure your kid will love it. The plot of this book is reminiscent of our "Kolobok", only here main character- mouse. He walks through the forest, meets animals that seem to want to eat him. But each time the mouse tells that he is friends with the terrible Gruffalo, who has a mouth, and teeth, and fangs ... Of course, the mouse invented him - after all, such monsters do not exist. But suddenly - the Gruffalo himself meets on his way ... How can the little mouse outwit him? ..
And what will he do when the Gruffalo's daughter comes to him? You can read about it in the second book.

There are no monsters in the book "Chelovetkin". It tells about a living branch that has a family - this is Papa Chelovetkin. By chance, he was far from home, and now he hurries to his children and wife, overcoming difficulties and obstacles. Of course, everything ends well, Chelovetkin gets home, and Santa Claus himself helps him in this. This is a small Christmas (and New Year's) story, so the book may be appropriate as a children's gift for the New Year's holiday. I really liked that in this translation, Santa Claus did not turn into Santa Claus, as is often the case. In my opinion, this is correct, and our children should understand the difference between Christmas Santa and Russian Father Frost.

And in the "Super Gem" the young reader meets a cheerful and friendly worm who would get into trouble if not for the help of true friends.

Be sure to check out the others Julia Donaldson books. Bright, cheerful and kind, they are perfect for a child. 2, 3 and 4 years old and even older children.
