Is it worth it to live in a small town? Question of the Day: What to do if you live in a small town? In a small town it is more difficult to arrange a personal life

Decent wages, a high standard of living, all the facets of possibilities - these are the associations that most girls have when they hear the word "megacity". More and more young people from provincial towns are leaning towards moving to the big city. Is everything so rosy in these "anthills"? Should you move from a small town to a densely populated area? Where is it better to live: in the province or in a big city? We weigh all the pros and cons.

Is the game worth the candle: what you will have to face when changing your place of residence

First of all, when thinking about whether it is worth moving to a big city from a small one, ask yourself the question: “why am I going”? How spontaneous is this desire? Is the urge to move a well-thought-out plan, a life-long one? Is it true that the decision to change the place of residence was not made on emotions? Is moving to a metropolis a necessary measure or a fleeting desire to change something?

Below we have grouped lists of the "disadvantages" and "advantages" of moving to a big city. It's up to you to decide!

Rent an apartment

The primary, most difficult and most expensive moment that will have to be dealt with when moving to a metropolis. Let's not delay: separate housing, and even with a good repair - an unrealistic luxury for a visiting provincial.

The only option that somehow “beats” with the budget of a typical visitor is to jointly rent an apartment with people like you. Or renting a room in a communal flat.

You might get lucky with your neighbors. Perhaps they will be decent people who later became friends. But, it must be admitted that this is the exception rather than the rule.

Difficulty in finding housing

In addition to the high cost of renting real estate in major cities, the complexity of the search is also depressing. You should be prepared for attempts to deceive by various scammers, meeting, to put it mildly, inadequate aunt landlords, selling frank "bugs" and the presence of neighbors of oriental appearance.

Large living expenses

As mentioned earlier, renting a house in fair condition costs money. Big money. Be prepared to pay half, or even 70% of the average salary of a middle manager.

Again, want to cut costs? Share an apartment with other residents. Keep in mind that finding neighbors on your "wave" is a real success.

Travel expenses

A special, distinctive moment of any "stuffed" metropolis is the presence of traffic jams. A typical city dweller spends in them from 20% of his time. Of course, this item refers to the disadvantages of moving from a small town to a big one, because there is no such problem in the provinces.

While a resident of a metropolis gets home from work, a provincial can devote this time to his family, a hobby or an additional form of income.

Moving by metro, without traffic jams, also takes an impressive part of the day. By the way, not the most pleasant. As a rule, in the subway or any other public transport during rush hours (everyone goes to work - from work) - a terrible flea market.

In addition to such obvious and quite tangible disadvantages of moving from a small town to a large metropolis, it should be noted the invisible negative nuances that will somehow affect your life.

Bad ecology

We think it is not worth explaining that gas pollution and air pollution in large cities are much higher than in small, provincial villages. Of course, staying for a week will not give any negative results. But, being in smog for at least a year, you will surely notice that your general health has worsened a little, fatigue and bad mood come much faster.

Of course, not only bad ecology is involved here. Psychological pressure also plays an important role.

Psychological traps

The life and way of life of people in a big city is built quite differently from the provincial one. People are always in a hurry to go somewhere: to come home early after a hard day at work, to have time to run to the store after work, not to miss a paid English lesson at a language school. This alignment of affairs almost excludes communication with friends and buddies - simply, there is no time.

The effect of a “driven hamster in a wheel” leaves an imprint on the psychological state: a persistent feeling of loneliness, meaningless “groundhog days” is created, apathy and despondency come.

Of course, such well-being can appear in a small town. However, as practice shows, residents of megacities are more subject to such a blues.

Pros and benefits that you will receive when moving to a metropolis

is it so bad? When moving from the province to the metropolis, only negative moments await? No, along with the difficulties, there are a lot of positive things that will “work in plus” throughout life.

Availability of jobs

A big city, more enterprises, infrastructure development, which means a huge number of jobs. No, no one says that newspapers with job advertisements are teeming with vacancies for directors in the largest holdings. But, it’s quite possible to find a place in your niche with an average salary.

Career

The rhythm of life in a large city really "forces" to move up the career ladder, to strive for more. Here it will no longer be so easy to “sit straight”, from year to year to receive a meager wages- too many temptations.

Fortunately, almost any company implies the presence of that “career ladder”, climbing which guarantees an improvement in the quality of life.

Availability of goods

A definite plus of changing a small town to a metropolis. Many shops, supermarkets and shopping centers - again, motivate for career growth and increased earnings. Yes, and, any fashionista expanse: popular brands, constant updating of collections, seasonal discounts and sales.

Competition is the key to a low price

In continuation of the positive argument “the presence of an extensive assortment in the stores of the metropolis”, I would like to note, compared with provincial prices, the low cost of food products, clothing and interior items. Of course, we will exclude any handmade products or products of famous designers. In general, and in general - there is more choice, prices are lower. It would seem, how is this possible? After all, in the metropolis they earn more?

The fact is that high competition gives rise to a kind of dumping - a comparative reduction in the cost of goods from competitors. There are many companies, few customers. Everyone is fighting for the buyer: reducing the price, improving the quality of the product.

Diverse leisure

The cultural component, and even the banal opportunity to relax with friends in any entertainment venues, is much higher in a big city than in a small village. Theaters, museums, cinema - all this works, if not around the clock, then most of the day. Of course, this has a positive effect on the quality of life, overall development.

Grooms and Brides

Very often, this item is the determining factor in the question "whether it is worth moving from the province to a densely populated city." Of course, the choice of the second half will be much more than in their native province. Of course, for those who want to create a successful family, this is a plus.

But, do not "roll your lips ahead of time", a good half of the free suitors may turn out to be the same "come in large numbers" as you are.

Opportunity to travel cheap

Have you noticed that a ticket to other countries from Moscow or St. Petersburg is much cheaper? Yes, the disadvantages of living in a big city can be offset by the fact that airfare is much cheaper than from a “provincial” point of departure. Again, this is due to the great competition, the presence of many air carrier companies and the increased regularity of flights.

Outcome

Do you doubt whether it is worth moving from the province to a big city, metropolis? Take a short pause, weigh all the pros and cons of the arguments. Imagine the worst possible scenario that could happen. Can you handle it? Then go.

Just please make sure that at any moment you can “rewind time” and return to your homeland. Just having a retreat plan will help a lot in difficult moments at the initial stages of moving and adapting to a big city.

Everyone who lives in small towns is familiar with the idea of "it's time to go" that is constantly in the air. In my native Sterlitamak, in city public places, you can easily meet people who lament that there is no work, money, etc. here. These people throughout their lives want to go somewhere where they will be happy, but still do not leave. What about those who do not want to live in a small town, but cannot “get off”?

There is a potted flower Anthurium, it was brought to Russia from Central and South America. It looks quite nice, but it is too capricious - it is extremely problematic to keep such a plant at home. Either the temperature does not suit him, then there is too much moisture, and the roots began to rot. In general, this flower can be transplanted indefinitely, but this will not change its nature. He is moody and inept. Anthurium juice is poisonous, so the plant is recommended to be kept away from cats and children so that they do not accidentally eat the plant. That is, the nature of anthurium not only creates problems for itself, but also harms others.

When a person begins to whine that he lives in the wrong city, he not only spends his energy (time, strength, emotions) on destructive activities, but also sucks strength from those around him - poisons them with his poison. People are inert beings. As soon as one person in the crowd begins to succumb to apathy, there will be others who are ready to feed his cowardice with their own weakness and join the choral “lament of Yaroslavna”. Here it begins: “There is no work”, “Salaries are low”, “girls do not give”, and all this is because of the city. Every time you are tempted to justify your own failures with the place you live in, remember that wherever you are “transplanted”, your nature will not change from this, and poisonous juice will continue to flow through your “stems”. It will continue to poison the life of you and everyone around you.

So, anthurium people are everywhere, regardless of locality, and everywhere they are the same - only the scale of thinking differs:

- In villages and villages, they dream of leaving for the conditional Sterlitamak (a neighboring city with a population higher than theirs).
- In small cities, like Sterlitamak (numbering 285 thousand people as of 2013), anthurium people look closely, mainly at Ufa, Kazan and other regional capitals.
- In regional capitals, like Ufa, they want to get to Moscow or St. Petersburg.
- Anthurium people from St. Petersburg and Moscow want to "get out of Rashka."

All anthurium people are equally unhappy, unsuccessful, failed, confused, they don’t know what they want from life and don’t even know how to make it so that they get at least something from this life. I witnessed a wonderful discussion video about Sterlitamak. There was an epidemic of whining. As always, people complained that we didn't have a job, a decent salary, and so on. From my position, I can say the following: our salaries are two times less than in St. Petersburg, this is a fact. But the fact that life in St. Petersburg is twice as expensive is also a fact.

Stop whining, go and work

Just a few months ago, a partner from the city on the Neva came to me, and he was delighted with the Capitol cafe, where you can buy a barbecue for 160 rubles. You won't find anything like this in Peterborough. Renting housing in Moscow and St. Petersburg is also consistently twice as expensive. Chicken breasts now cost 130-150 rubles, in St. Petersburg - 330 rubles. Do you still think that lower salaries are not justified? OK. I understand the desire to earn more. So, look for ways: grow within your company, create a small business (read the stories of my friends from Sterlitamak who are), look for a part-time job. There are a lot of options, but for this you need to work, and not just open your mouth and wait for someone to put food in it. Just follow the instructions:

1. Looking for a job;
2. Get a job;
3. We work.

Yes, it's that simple. Just three steps, and the plant turns into a full-fledged person. Work ennobles.

Do you want to be appreciated? Show respect for people

Do you think there are no jobs in Sterlitamak? As an employer, I will tell you that there are jobs in Sterlitamak, rather, there are no employees. MFI “I like money” now employs 5 people, and I was tired of putting together this small team. Do you know why? Because every time I posted an ad, I set aside a day to conduct interviews. The interval between candidates is 1 hour. And what is the result? As a result, 60% of candidates did not come to the interview without explanation. These are lawyers, and accountants, and loan managers. They did not even consider it necessary to call and warn that they would not come. This disrespect for other people's time, disrespect, in principle, for people already characterizes them as unreliable partners and bad colleagues. Nobody needs such workers.

Do you want to get a good salary? Do your job well and be a normal person. Again, as an example, I will cite a colleague who is working with us now. Her monthly salary is already 25% higher than average salary on the market and it will grow. Do you know why? Because the girl works and does her job well. Work is the key to success. Do you want to live well, but do not want to work? It means that you yourself are to blame for your failures, and the city has nothing to do with it.

Do you want to take the first steps, but do not know in which direction? Try in any

I perfectly understand that there are not so many entertainment venues in Sterlitamak, there are no types of entertainment at all, but I am also aware that we have wonderful nature - and this is very valuable. Understand that in the summer you can get into the car and in 15 minutes you will be on the lake or on the river bank, swim, pick berries, mushrooms, have a picnic with your friends. This is not Moscow, along which patches of greenery in the form of parks and squares are dotted. In winter, in an hour's drive, you can find yourself on a ski slope and slide down with a breeze on a snowboard. Instead of focusing on the shortcomings of your city, pay attention to its advantages, and your mood will improve 🙂

P.S. Maybe somewhere I wrote too sharply, somewhere I offended someone. Sorry. I just want people who have a bad idea in their head that another city can give you a heavenly life, rethink their views. Perhaps you shouldn't leave? At least, if you do not have a specific goal, desire or dream that cannot be realized in your city. For example, if you want to become a flight attendant, but there are no planes in Sterlitamak.

Sometimes a person has no choice, and he is forced to live in a city where there are very few opportunities for entertainment. However, this also has its advantages. In small towns where nothing distracts you, you can spend more time educating and developing your talents. If you get to know the people who live in your city better, you can even make the city more interesting and more convenient for everyone.

Steps

How to find your occupation

Listen to new music. This will allow you to enjoy your time. To overcome boredom, you need to try new things. Experiment with new music - try listening to new bands, new albums and even new genres of music.

    • Go to concerts. Even in smaller towns there are usually local bands. They don't always play well, but they can be interesting in their own way.
    • Try listening to internet radio. It is quite possible that you will come across songs that you would never have heard.
    • Ask friends to recommend music to you.
  1. Get creative. To get rid of boredom, you should do what makes the brain constantly work and be attentive. Creativity will help you develop skills that will help you move to another place in the future. These skills will make you an interesting person and allow you to meet people like you.

    • Try learning to play a musical instrument or sing. Once you're pretty good at that, find other musicians and start a band. If you start performing, you will have the opportunity to meet new people.
      • If you played in a band, orchestra, or sang in a choir while in school, you can continue to do so. In many cities there are all opportunities for this. You can master a musical instrument or learn to sing and join existing bands.
  2. Get into literary work. Some cities have their own poetry circles. If there are none in your city, organize a circle yourself. Try blogging with short stories and poems.

    • In many cities people are interested fine arts(painting, graphics). Exhibit your work in a cafe or sign up for a drawing course.
  3. Choose a book. Reading used to be the only way to entertain yourself, and it is still one of the the best means against boredom. You will need to be careful all the time. You will meet the characters, follow the development of events and learn more about the world that is beyond the boundaries of your town.

Stop dreaming. As practice shows, even if wandering in the clouds distracts you from your routine, it actually only hurts. When in dreams a person is transported to exotic places, the place where he lives begins to seem to him even less attractive than before.

Try something new. To overcome boredom, you need to try new things. Surprisingly, doing things that you don't like but aren't used to are more effective against boredom than things that you enjoy but are used to.

    • If people who are bored are offered candy or electric shocks, they are more likely to choose electric shocks. Something new better relieves boredom, and it doesn’t matter if pleasant sensations arise in the process or not.
    • It can be difficult for you to think of a new activity for yourself. So the first thing you need to do is surround yourself. interesting people with different flavors. They will help you get acquainted with something that you yourself would not dare to try.
    • Try new foods that seem exotic or intimidating to you. Go skiing or go skydiving. Watch a movie in a genre that you usually don't like. Go to a concert. Everywhere there are many opportunities to learn new things, but our fears get in the way.
  4. Meditate. Meditation is not the most exciting activity, but it helps to spend time usefully. Meditation improves concentration, making it easier for a person to focus on interesting activities. To increase concentration, meditate for 20 minutes daily.

    • Meditation means focusing on one thing for a long time. Concentrate your attention on the mantra (phrase) or image. Don't think about anything else. When something starts to distract you, chase those thoughts away.
  5. Travel. Traveling will diversify your life and introduce you to something new. You may even begin to miss something you left at home. If you don't have money to travel abroad, go to a nearby town.

    Communication with local residents

    1. Try to see the good. Pessimism is harmful: if you keep saying that you have nothing to do, you will not find anything that you would like to do. Many people like to live in small towns, and, oddly enough, living in such a city can make a person happy.

Get out in nature more often. Usually in small towns more possibilities stay in nature. Go to a park or forest. Start fishing. In winter, go ice skating and skiing.

      • You never know what will come your way in the forest. Remember the practice of self-awareness and pay attention to new places. Imagine what might be waiting for you around the corner. Feel how your body becomes healthier and stronger.
      • Few things are as good at dispelling boredom as a little bit of danger. You will not be bored if you find yourself on top of a mountain on two narrow planks. All your attention will be occupied by maintaining balance on skis.
    2. Chat with the locals. Look for local clubs, clubs or sports leagues. Even if it's not something you're interested in, you can meet new people there. Surround yourself with people who will make your life interesting.

      • Communication with interesting people will make even a boring city brighter. Building relationships with other people is especially important in very small towns where everyone knows each other. Finding replacement friends is easy only in big cities, so value the connections you have with the people you have.
    3. Find like-minded people. Having friends is good, but you also need to connect with people who share your interests and can help you develop and improve life in the city. These people could be teachers, local government leaders, librarians, or even a neighbor who used to play in a jazz band. All of these people may have the experience and resources to make life in the city the way you would like it to be.

Work out your own style. One of the downsides of living in a big city is that you can quickly blend in with the crowd. It's much easier to be special in a small town. Find music and literature that will make you different from others.

Some dream of living in a metropolis, others cannot stand the hustle and bustle of a big city and seek to leave it. But how to make the right decision and understand whether this option is right for you? To do this, consider all the advantages and disadvantages of living in a metropolis.

Advantages

First, consider all the advantages of living in a metropolis:

  1. Interesting and useful contacts. Indeed, it is much easier to meet interesting people and establish promising connections in a big city than in a small one. The metropolis attracts people, especially ambitious, educated, active and purposeful.
  2. The opportunity to get a good education and a prestigious profession. There are more higher education in the metropolis educational institutions, and staff training for highest level, and that is why there are so many nonresident students here, each of whom dreams, after graduating from the university, to get a start in life and build a career.
  3. Living in a metropolis disciplines. You have to get up early every day to get to work, take care of yourself to look good, keep yourself in shape to attract the attention of the opposite sex.
  4. More opportunities to build a personal life and start a family. Even the most modest girl in a large city is easier to find a soul mate, because many male residents of megacities are not shy. The representatives of the stronger sex also have many more options. This advantage has several explanations. First of all, public places, in which dating usually takes place, there are more in large and developed regions. Secondly, residents inevitably contact and interact with each other. Thirdly, you can register on a dating site and meet with a virtual interlocutor.
  5. Developed infrastructure. In a large city in every district there are schools and kindergartens, clinics and hospitals, large stores, shopping centers and other institutions, people need for a fulfilling life. Residents of small towns sometimes have to go to large regional centers to receive qualified medical care, solve housing issues, and for other reasons.
  6. Various leisure options. In any metropolis there are cinemas, shopping and entertainment centers, restaurants, bars, fast food chains and cafes, museums, water parks, nightclubs, theaters, zoos and much more. The entertainment industry is developed, and new establishments are constantly opening where you can have fun, interesting and even useful time.
  7. Availability of different categories of goods. Many manufacturers and suppliers focus specifically on large cities, and therefore we can safely say that it is possible to buy almost everything in them, including cutting-edge gadgets, exotic products and unusual things.
  8. Job. In the metropolis, there are much more opportunities to build a career, as there are many enterprises and various institutions that need employees, including young, active and creative ones. There are much fewer vacancies in the villages.
  9. Opportunity to open a business and grow a business. If you are an enterprising and quick-witted person, then you can become an entrepreneur.
  10. Earnings in megacities are an order of magnitude higher than in small settlements, this is a fact. Therefore, the standard of living is better, which opens up opportunities for development, improving the status and financial situation.
  11. The ability to travel. All metropolitan areas have international airports, railway and bus stations. In addition, embassies and travel agencies are located here, so organizing a trip abroad is much easier from here than from the village.

disadvantages

Now let's look at the disadvantages of living in a big city:

  1. Bad ecology. There are many plants, factories and other enterprises in the metropolis, the emissions of which pollute environment. Some compounds get into the air and are inhaled by people, other substances get into the water and also inevitably rush into the human body. In addition, there are many more cars in large cities, the exhaust of which also has an extremely negative impact to the ecological situation.
  2. Listing all the shortcomings, it is worth including the rhythm of life in their list. In some megacities, it is simply mad, so it will be very difficult for people accustomed to a measured existence to adapt to it. Some, unable to adapt and learn to constantly rush and keep up, eventually change their place of residence.
  3. Big competition. To get a good position, you need to make a lot of effort, because several people are likely to apply for it. It is important to be able to present yourself with better side, highlight their positive qualities and prove their capabilities and strengths. Not everyone is ready for this.
  4. Frequent illnesses. Unfortunately, residents of megacities get sick much more often than those living in small settlements. Firstly, a frantic rhythm undermines the immune system, due to which the body's defenses weaken, and a person cannot resist the attacks of pathogenic microorganisms. Secondly, due to the congestion of people and high population density, all contagious diseases spread at a rapid pace, which often leads to epidemics. Thirdly, it is sometimes simply impossible to limit contacts with patients, because often they are in close proximity to healthy people.
  5. A modern metropolis is a huge number of people, and not everyone likes this feature. If you prefer loneliness, are a modest person, an introvert, or, moreover, a sociopath who does not know how to exist in society, then you will have a very difficult time.
  6. The next minus is important for car owners. Since many residents have personal transport big cities and has long been not a luxury, but a means of transportation, this inevitably leads to the formation of congestion and traffic jams. Things are much worse with the traffic situation: in megacities, traffic is busier, and accidents happen more often.
  7. A huge flow of information that not everyone can handle. To keep abreast of the events taking place in the city and keep up with life, you need to use modern gadgets, regularly study the media, be an active Internet user and be able to process data, filtering out everything unnecessary and highlighting the most important.
  8. Small spaces, cramped. Megacities are quickly built up and settled, new people constantly come to them, so at some point you may get the impression of a lack of space, especially if you are used to space and freedom.
  9. People. Since many of them are constantly in a hurry, give 100% and get tired at work, they become withdrawn, irritable and indifferent, and this is sad.

Living in a big city has both advantages and disadvantages, so do not rush to the city if you are in doubt and are not ready for change. But new opportunities and perspectives may open before you.

Answer: In fact, the question sounded somewhat different, namely: “what to do if you live in a hole in the world?”. And, if you call your town "the hole of the world", then life here is clearly not to your liking. There is only one answer: get out of there as soon as possible. Of course, if you are 13-14-15 years old, going to Moscow with 1,000 rubles in your pocket is a so-so option. Unfortunately, you and I, no matter how much we would like it, are not heroines. American film, where a girl from the province comes to New York and achieves everything that she only dreamed of. Alas. But still, you can endure some of these Hollywood fairy tales - if you want to get out of the province, you must act. And act now. By the way, about cinema, for inspiration, you can watch: “Burlesque” with Christina Aguilera or “Honey” with Jessica Alba, as well as the classics of Russian cinema “Carnival”, “Girl without an Address” and “Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears”.

The most obvious option to “get out” is to enter a Moscow university. What is needed for that?

  • Decide who you want to apply for. It sounds unrealistic, we know, but you still need to choose. To make it easier for you.
  • Study the list of universities from "A" to "Z" and see what a particular university can offer you. By the way, you can study, there are 24 of ours.
  • Find out what you need to do to get on the budget. Obviously - it's good to pass the exam. Well, or show off your knowledge at the Olympiad. By the way, we wrote about how to enter the budget.

In general, EVERYTHING that you should know about admission, we told in this material -.

And if the option of entering a Moscow university suits you, then the main thing you should do is to concentrate on your studies. Good grades and a brilliant result on the exam are your lucky ticket to the capital. Of course, further you will face a lot of new problems: in particular, where to live and where to get money? If you enter on a budget, then, obviously, your option is a hostel. But the money will still be needed, so a side job is needed. You can't live on one scholarship. And here another problem pops up - the question of the solvency of your parents, their ability and willingness to invest in your future. Therefore, in between homework, you should prepare for a very serious conversation with mom and dad. The following should be discussed:

  1. Are your parents ready to pay for your education or do you have no options other than the budget.
  2. Are your parents ready to pay you a rented apartment or your option is a hostel.
  3. Are your parents ready to send you enough money for food, clothes, and so on, or is your option a job.

Believe me, your mom and dad only want the best for you, but this does not mean that they are obliged to spend all their savings just so that you study and live in Moscow (although this happens).

Of course, the university is not the only option to get out of a small town. There are also such enthusiasts who manage to launch their start-up after school. Whether it's a food blog or a fitness Instagram account. Think about it, do you have brilliant ideas, could you do something “WOW” and do without education in principle? The option is risky. And for parents, this sounds like a fairy tale or complete nonsense. In any case, you should read those who did not receive higher education and still succeeded.

There are a couple of options: friends or a guy from Moscow who can take you in. The options are dubious, if only because sitting on someone else's neck is not cool. You must understand that even if you meet a cool (and possibly even rich) guy from Moscow, starting a life together while still in school is a big mistake. But what if he leaves you, pack your bags and go to your, as you put it, "hole of the world"? Help, of course, will not hurt you ... It's great if someone gives you temporary support. But you must remember one thing - you must always have a safety net. Believe only in yourself and your strengths, achieve everything yourself - and then nothing and no one will stop you on the way to your dream.
