Northern State Medical University- Russian higher educational institution. It was founded in 1931 by a resolution of the Council of People's Commissars on the formation of the Arkhangelsk State Medical Institute as a base for training personnel for healthcare in the European North of Russia.

In 1935, a department was created at ASMI physical culture and medical rehabilitation, headed by Professor G.I. Krasnoselsky.
